Mr. Ballou’s Technical
Drawing class students tested out their catapults on Principal
Bob Snee Friday morning. The goal of Mr. Ballou’s project
was to have his students design a simple plan of a machine
and build it using their blue prints. The catapults were
a success in Mr. Ballou’s eyes. “Even
though the structure and function was simple, building a
machine and making little adjustments along the way until
it functions properly is a very difficult process,” said Ballou.
The design and building of the catapults took over one month
of the Technical Drawing classes. The students tested out
their catapults using water balloons against a number of
stand-in targets before Principal Snee arrived in the front
of the school. Try as they might, the students could not
hit Snee, who confidently showed up appareled in his best
shirt and tie and sipping from his coffee cup. Snee stood 20 yards away as the design students
attempted to hit him with their ammo from a distance of about
20 yards. After it was all over Mr. Snee stated, “I was fairly
dry, only getting splashed by indirect hits. Water
is in my shoes, my socks and pants are wet, but overall I’m
dry.” (Photo by Stephen Finley)
