Both Mason Teams Beat Rams Away

By Sara Sugrue (September 27, 2004)

Both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams won their duel meets against Strasburg High School this past Wednesday on the Rams’ home course..

Leading the boys’ team was senior John Sullivan with a time of 18.40. Jonathan Byers came in second, closely followed by Brian Collins, Alex Nette, Josh Jenkins, and Chad O’Hara.

Junior Sarah Sullivan and sophomore Susanna Sullivan fought it out to the finish line with Sarah finishing the race first for the Mason girls and second overall with a time of 23.20. Emma Goetz was close behind in fourth place. Emily Walden and Nikki Williamson both turned in strong races.

Going into the meet, coach Julie Bravin and coach Kate Smith did not have high expectations for everyone to make their best time on Strasburg’s hilly course. To motivate the runners before their race the coaches tried to motivate people by encouraging them to meet their set goals and to “Love the hills!”

Next Wednesday the top seven runners will compete in a duel meet against Manassas Park.
