Girls Win, Boys Lose at Clarke County

The George Mason girls’ varsity track team won their duel meet against Clark County with an overall score of 67 to 58. The boys’ varsity team lost with a final score of 40 to 88.

Senior Leah Clark led the girls’ team with two first-place finishes in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.0 and in the 300 hurdles with a time of 54.4. Clark was followed closely by Elsa Lee who finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.1 as well as in the 300m hurdles with a time of 20.01.

Meredith Kerrigan came in third in both events with a time of 20.6 in the 100m hurdles and a time of 1.03 in the 300m hurdles. Ashley Thompson finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 13.7 and second in the 200m dash with a time of 29.75. Sarah Stanley placed second in the discus with a distance of 93’ and second in the shot with a distance of 28’ 7".

Sarah Sullivan placed first in the 800m with a time of 2.39.7 and second in the 3200 with a time of 12.18. Elizabeth Fortenberry finished second in the 800m with a time of 2.45. Agnes Ek, Hayes Davis and Liz Rose claimed first, second, and third place in the 400m dash. Ek had a time of 1.05, Hayes Davis finished second with a time of 1.10 and Liz Rose placed third with a time of 1.19. Lydia Fairfax placed second in the 1600m run. Nikki Williamson placed third in the 1600m run with a time of 6.22. The girls’ 4x4 team won the 4x4 relay.

Junior Travis Greene led the boys’ team with a first-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.0, a second place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.60, and a second place in the long jump with a distance of 17’ 7 ¼". Bob Bumgarner placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 36’ ½"and third in the shot with a distance of 38’ 1". John Sullivan placed first in the 3200m run with a time of 10.18. Derek Devore placed second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.0. Chad O’Hara placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 55.0. Chad was followed closely by Ted Rowdybush who placed second with a time of 57.58. Steven Newhall placed second in the 800m with a time of 2.19. Jonathan Byers placed second in the 1600m run with a time of 4.56. Yusof Becker finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 19.7. Justin Morrison placed third in the long jump with a distance of 17’ 10 ½". The boys’ 4x4 team won.

The varsity track team will compete against Rappahannock County next Wednesday at home.
