Boys Place 3rd, Girls 4th in District;
Send 21 to Regionals

The boys’ and girls’ varsity track teams competed against Madison County, Clark County, Strasburg, Rappahannock and Manassas Park in the Bull Run District competition on Wednesday, May 18, 2005. The boys’ team placed third overall in the district, while the girls’ team placed fourth overall. All the runners that finished within the top six are offered a spot in the regional competition next Friday in Charlottesville VA.

In the field events, junior Travis Greene set a new Bull Run District record in the long jump with a distance of 22’ 10 ¾. Sarah Stanley placed second in the shot put with a distance of 28’ 8 and sixth in the discus with a distance of 95’ 9. Ed Hickey placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 113’ 08.

Leah Clark led the girls’ hurdle team by placing sixth in the 100m hurdles and third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 52.82. Derek Devore led the boys’ hurdle team with two fifth place finishes, one in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.10 and the other in the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.26. Yusof Becker placed third in the 300m hurdles. Elsa Lee placed sixth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 58.42.

Ashley Thompson led the girls’ sprinting team with a second place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 29.10, and a fourth place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 13.84. Travis Greene led the boys’ team with a first place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.63 and a second place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.46. Josh Jenkins placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 51.09. Chad O’Hara finished third with a time of 54.66 and Ted Rowdybush place fourth with a time of 55.53. Running for the girls was Hayes Davis who placed fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 68.86.

In the 800m run, Jonathan Byers placed fifth with a time of 2.08, Agnes Ek placed second with a time of 2.28, and Elizabeth Fortenberry finished fourth with a time of 2.43. Sarah Sullivan led the girls in the 1600m run by placing second with a time of 5.39. Lucia Fairfax finished fourth with a time of 6.17. Following closely was Nikki Williamson who finished fifth with a time of 6.18. For the boys’ team, John Sullivan placed fourth in the 1600m run. Susanna Sullivan placed second for the girls’ team in the 3200 with a time of 12.06 and Emma Goetz finished fourth with a time of 13.26.

The boys’ team placed second in the 4x100m and first in the 4x400m relay. The girls’ team claimed second place in the 4x400 relay.
