Girls’, Boys’ Track Teams
Defeat Rappahannock in Last Duel Meet

In their last duel meet of the season, the George Mason girls’ and boys’ varsity track teams defeated Rappahannock County at home on Wednesday. The final score for the girls was 88 to 33, while the boys score was 105 to 22.

Bob Bumgarner led the field events by placing first in the triple jump with a distance of 36’ 9, first in the shot with a distance of 37’ 1, and third in the long jump with a distance of 17’ 10 ¾. Travis Greene placed first in the long jump with a distance of 19’ 7 ½. Justin Morrison placed second with a distance of 18’ 5. Jumping for the girl’s team was junior Hayes Davis who placed second in the long jump with a distance of 13’ 1. Ben Greenberg placed first in the high jump, jumping a height of 5’ 4. In the shot put, Roth West placed second with a distance of 86’ 3 and Ed Hickey placed third with a distance of 32’ 8. Sarah Stanley placed first in the shot put for the girls with a distance of 29’ 4; she also placed first in the discus with a distance of 93’ 10. Roth West placed third in the discus with a distance of 86’ 3.

Both the girls’ and boy’s hurdle teams swept all of the hurdle events, earning the team a total of 36 points; 18 for the girl’s team and 18 for the guy’s team. Derek Devore placed first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.49 and first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.08. Yusof Becker placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.63 and second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 49.70. Kyle Nette placed third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 20.87 and third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.9. For the girls, Leah Clark placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.90 and first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 54.92. Elsa Lee placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.27 and second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 1.00. Meredith Kerrigan placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.48 and third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 1.02.

Josh Jenkins finished first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.39. Josh was followed closely by Travis Greene who finished second with a time of 11.50. Ben Greenberg finished third with a time of 12.97. Ashley Thompson placed first in the 100m dash with a time of 14.00. Meredyth Duncan finished third with a time of 14.98.

Sarah Sullivan, Nikki Williamson, and Lydia Fairfax swept the 1600m run. Sarah placed first with a time of 5.53, Nikki Williamson was second with a time of 6.17, and Lydia Fairfax finished third with a time of 6.17. Jonathan Byers led the boy’s team with a first place victory in the 1600 with a time of 5.01. Ramsey Hanna finished third with a time of 5.57.

Junior Hayes Davis placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 1.09. Liz Rose placed second with a time of 1.17. Ted Rowdybush finished first for the boys team with a time of 56.24.

Agnes Ek, Elizabeth Fortenberry, and Alica Hartstack claimed the top three places in the girls 800m dash, while John Sullivan, Alex Nette, and Colin Lauer claimed the top three spots for the boy’s team in the 800m dash. Agnes Ek placed first with a time of 2.29, Elizabeth Fortenberry finished second with a time of 2.42, and Alica Hartstack was third with a time of 2.37. For the boy’s team, John Sullivan claimed first place with a time of 2.06, Alex Nette finished second with a time of 2.20, and Colin Lauer was third with a time of 2.23.

Chad O’Hara, Justin Morrison, and Ben Greenberg swept the 200m dash. Chad placed first with a time of 25.28, Justin was second was second with a time of 25.28 and Ben finished third with a time of 26.32. For the girl’s team, Ashley Thompson placed first in the 200m dash with a time of 29.36, while Hayes Davis finished third with a time of 29.90.

Susanna Sullivan placed first in the 3200m run with a time of 12.08. She was followed by Emma Goetz who placed second with a time of 13.37, and Kristi Price who finished third with a time of 14.06. Steven Newhall placed first for the boy’s team with a time of 11.13. Chad O’Hara placed third with a time of 12.38.

Both the girls’ and boys’, relay teams won the 4x400m relay. The boy’s team also won the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.57.
