Everyone Excels as both Boys’, Girls’
Teams Beat Madison County

Both the girls’ and boys’ varsity track and field teams defeated Madison County at home yesterday. The girls’ team won with an overall score of 75 to 51, while the boys’ final score was 77 to 57.


The Mustangs had many top scoring performances during the field events. Sarah Stanley placed first in the shot put with a distance of 26’ 4", she also placed first in the discus with a distance of 89’ 10". Bob Bumgarner placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 38’ 4" and a third place finish in the long jump with a distance of 18’ 1 ¼". Travis Greene placed first in the long jump with a distance of 19’ 9 ½". He was followed closely by Justin Morrison who finished second with a distance of 18’ 8". Ed Hickey tied for second place in the discus with a distance of 90’ 10". Ben Greenberg placed third in the high jump, clearing a height of 5’ 0".

Leah Clark, Elsa Lee, and Meredith Kerrigan led the girls’ hurdle team by claiming first, second, and third place in the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles, earning the girls’ team 18 points. Derek Devore finished first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.14; he also claimed first place in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.70. Yusof Becker finished third in the 110m hurdles and in the 300m hurdles.

Ashley Thomson finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 28.72 and she finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 13.32. Josh Jenkins placed first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.27. Travis Greene placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.53 and he placed first in the 200m dash with a time of 23.05. Chad O’Hara followed close behind him in the 200m dash with a time of 24.18 to claim third place.

Sarah Sullivan, Nikki Williamson and Lydia Fairfax earned the girls’ team nine points by sweeping the 1600m run. Sarah Sullivan placed first with a time of 5.54, Nikki Williamson followed her with a time of 6.37, and Lydia Fairfax placed third with a time of 6.24. John Sullivan claimed first place in the 1600m run with a time of 4.54. Steven Newhall followed him closely with a time of 4.55 to claim second.

Travis Greene, Justin Morrison, Bob Bumgarner, and Josh Jenkins claimed first place in the 4x100m relay with a time 46.38. Chad O’Hara placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 55.19; he was followed closely by Ted Rowdybush who claimed second with a time of 57.42. For the girls’ team Agnes Ek placed first with a time of 1.05.08. Hayes Davis placed second with a time of 1.08.59.

Elizabeth Fortenberry led the girls’ team in sweeping the 800m run with a time of 24.4.33. Kristi Price finished second with a time of 25.9.16. Maggie Person placed third with a time of 3.04.5. Alex Nette led the boys’ team by placing second with a time of 2.20.17. Andy Parker finished third with a time of 2.27.49.

Susanna Sullivan placed first in the 3200m run with a time of 12.25. She was followed by Emma Goetz who placed second with a time of 13.17. John Sullivan led the boys’ team by placing first in the 3200m run with a time of 12.51. Colin Lauer placed third with a time of 12.06.

The boys’ and girls’ 4x4 teams earned first place. The girls’ team consisted of Agnes Ek, Leah Clark, Hayes Davis and Sarah Sullivan. Running for the guys team were Josh Jenkins, Chad O’Hara, Ted Rowdybush and Justin Morrison.
