Senior center Will
Straub sank
a free throw with .6 of asecond left on the clock to give the Mustangs’
their first victory, 51-50, against Marshall Wednesday night at home.
The rousing victory lifted the
Mustangs’ spirits, that were sagging following two opening losses
against Central (48-44) and Highland (73-71). In both games, the
Mustangs blew substantial leads. Against Central the Mustangs were up
by 11 with seven minutes to go and against Highland the Mustangs were
ahead by 15 with five minutes to go.
Against the
Statesmen,
however, the Mustangs reversed this trend, coming from 13 down at the
half to edge their opponents. Mason was sparked in the 4th
quarter by a technical foul on Marshall’s forward. Mason rallied with
multiple three-pointers and tight defense. It was capped by numerous
free throws to seal the win.
The Mustangs take
on Calvary Temple tonight at home at 7:30.
