Mustangs Lose Two Close Ones,
Fall to Strasburg, Central

By Robert Kuhn (December 27, 2004)

The varsity basketball team has dropped two games in a row by a combined score of 10 points. On Tuesday night the Mustangs were defeated by Strasburg, 68-62. The loss can be attributed to giving Strasburg an early 15-point lead, and although the Mustangs came back, it just wasn’t enough. The Mustangs were led by senior Colin Milano with 16 points and six assists, including four 3-pointers. Milano was followed by Travis Greene who had eight points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. This was the first district game on the Mustang’s schedule and the last game before the Fauquier Winter Tournament that will be held over the break.

Last Wednesday, Dec. 15, the Mustangs lost to Central in a nail-biter for the second time this year, this time at home. Once again, this loss can be attributed to the Mustangs’giving up a substantial lead to start the game. Freshman point guard Mike Schwengel came up big with seven points and six assists in the Mustangs’ attempted comeback. Senior center will Straub added eight points and 10 rebounds along with Travis Greene who scored 10 points. This style of game has become somewhat of a trend for the Mustangs, giving their opponents a substantial lead and spending the rest of the game clawing back.
