Mustangs Drop 2 after Winning 2

By Robert Kuhn and Adam Knudsen (December 16, 2004)

Mason set out last night to revenge a loss earlier in the season against the Central Woodstock Eagles but, missing three of their starters due to illness and injury, the Mustangs spent most of the night chasing the lead. In the end Mason lost 63-51 to this smaller but well equipped team.

Junior Travis Green led the Mustangs with 10 points and freshman Mike Schwengel led with five assists and seven points. The George Mason Mustangs couldn’t find their game shooting poorly from the free throw line making only five of the 25 field goals attempted and had 15 turnovers in the second half of the game.

Mason will host the Strasburg Rams this Tuesday and intend on revenging the past losses and find their game again at home. The Mustangs now stand at 2-4

Monday night against Fairfax High School, the Rebels’ combination of size and strength proved too much for Mustangs who lost 71-48. Fairfax had four players over 6’5, which allowed  them to dominate the game by rebounding and taking continuous shots. The Mustangs were limited on shots because they were unable to rebound over this much larger Fairfax team.

The Mustangs were led by Josiah Larson with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Sean Dawson with 10 points, and Will Straub with eight points. Mason shot 50 percent from the free throw line, sinking nine free throws of the 18 they tried.
