Mason
Wraps Rapp 39-7
By Adam Knudsen (October 29, 2004)
The Mustangs showed their pride Friday
night, winning their
homecoming game against Rappahannock, 39-7. The
Mustangs
came out pumped and the intensity raised as the stands began to fill up.

Mason had two early
touchdowns in the first quarter. Junior Travis Greene made an athletic
leap in
the air to pick the ball off to allow Mason to score on its next drive.
Rappahannock
was unable to answer and turned the ball over allowing Mason to drive
the ball
and score its second touchdown on a run by senior Steve Williams.
In the second quarter Mason moved from
its running game and
looked over the shoulders of linemen Scott Lemen,
Neil Wright, Danny Johnson, Andrew Campanelli,
Ryan Larcamp, Will Straub, and Gregg
Curtin, for the only pass
play of the game to sophomore Jimmy Piscopo,
for a 49-yard
touchdown.

Curtin
was 3-3 for extra points in the first half. Rappahannock
answered back driving the ball to the one-yard and with one second left
they
spiked the ball to stop the clock. Junior Thomas Berry was able to run
the ball
in and make the game 21-7 at the half. “We dominated the first half
offensively, but we need to toughen up on the defensive side of the
ball,” said
junior Gregg Curtin about the first half.
After
the half Mason quickly came out and scored two
touchdowns, making it 33-7. Junior John Schwengel
received a toss and ran to the left side for 13 yards to score a
touchdown.
Then junior Travis Greene received a toss and ran it to the right side
for 80
yards which ended up crippling the Rappahannock
defense.
Travis Greene had only three carries but ran the ball for a
126 yards against Rappahannock. Mason’s defense
didn’t
allow any points scored against them in the second half. Then in the
fourth
quarter the drive was kept alive with senior Steve Williams as he ran
the ball
for a 15-yard touchdown.
This is the first year that Rappahannock
has had a varsity football team. They had some talent but they lacked
discipline and because of the Mustangs’ well disciplined standards set
out by
coach Horn they were able to score on almost every possession.
