Mustangs Win 2 of Last 3

By Sam Ehsani (January 22, 2005)

Strasburg 44, Mason 40

Josiah Larson led the Mustangs with 13 points and 8 rebounds in a tough loss on the road Thursday night, 44-40 at Strasburg. The loss places the Mustangs in fifth place in the district with a 2-4 record, 5-12 overall.

Mason began the game with a spark from freshman Mike Schwangel and senior Will Straub, who ended with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Down by a sizeable lead at halftime, the Strasburg Rams changed their defensive strategy and stymied the Mustang offense. The Mustangs found themselves in a tight game unable to score. Eventually, Strasburg was able to hold on, sweeping the Mustangs in the regular season.

Mason 87, Word of Life 70

Senior Steve Williams scored a career-high 26 points to give the Mustangs an easy victory over Word of Life, 87-70, Tuesday night at home. Junior Paul Mene added 15 points and the Mustangs handed Word of Life a loss that was not as easy as the score demonstrates. The Mustangs pulled away early, but then Word of Life was able to come back and tie the game 42-42. Then, Williams scored a majority of his points in the fourth quarter off of wide-open lay-ups and put-backs allowing the Mustangs to open up a double-digit lead.

Mason 91, Rappahannock 52

In a team effort, the Mustangs pounded the Rappahannock County Panthers 91-52 Friday night. Six players had double-digit point totals. Seniors Josiah Larson, Colin Molano, Steve Williams, Robert Kuhn, Sam Ehsani and sophomore Ben Zorn all led the team in scoring. The Mustangs pounced on the Panthers early and never let up.
