By Meredith Kerrigan (January 22, 2005)

Potomac 40, Mason 33

The Potomac Warriors defeated the Mustangs 40-33 Friday, January 12, dropping Mason to 1-5 in the district. The girls gave a "tremendous effort" and were only beaten in the last few minutes of the game, mainly on foul calls. Hannah Baumgardner’s 10 points led the Mustangs. The starters of the game were Rachel Kazman, Rebecca Jackson, Kate Root, Abby Stroup and Baumgardner. "This was a complete game for us. We played well offensively having a season high in points and also played well defensively. We executed our plays and the coaches were very pleased at how everyone contributed. We came up a bit short in the end but we are very excited about the improvement we showed," expressed head JV coach Kuder.

Strasburg 42, Mason 22

The Mason JV girls lost to the wild Strasburg Rams 42-22 Thrusday, January 11. Mason almost caught up with Strasburg in the ending of the first half and were only down by six points. As the game drew to a close Mason still persisted, ending the game at the buzzer with a basket by Kate Root. The starters of the game were Emily Sabatini, Kate Root, Rachel Kazman, Rebecca Jackson and Hannah Baumgardner. "Unfortunately we did not play very well against Strasburg. We could not get anything going offensively and did not play well defensively by getting into foul trouble early. We know we have to work hard to compete with them and we will have to make great improvement for when they come here to play us," explained JV head coach Kuder.

Clarke County 59, Mason 20

The rival Clarke County Eagles crushed the Mustangs 59-20 on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Mason’s Rachel Kazman and Mayssa Chehata each had a high of four points for the Mustangs. The starters of the game were Kate Root, Rebecca Jackson, Rachel Kazman, Hannah Baumgardner and Abby Stroup. "Clarke has a very strong team. We played well at times, but didn't match up with a couple of their players. We will have to come up with a different game plan for them next time," explained JV head coach Kuder.
