Mr. Wade Henderson, Esq., Executive Director
of the
Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and Counsel to that
organization’s
Education Fund, will address Mason’s 158
graduates
Wednesday evening at 5 o’clock
at
Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

Joining
Mr. Henderson on the dais will be
senior valedictory
speakers Alex Douglas and Natalie Krachman,
who were
elected by their fellow valedictory scholars to give the student
commencement
speeches. To qualify as a valedictory scholar, a student must have
earned a
minimum grade point average of 4.0 for his or her high school career.
According to its website, the
Leadership
Conference on Civil
Rights is the nation’s premier civil and human rights coalition.
Established in
1950, it was created to promote the passage and implementation of civil
rights
laws designed to end discrimination and achieve equal opportunity for
all
Americans.
Mr. Henderson is well known for his
expertise on a wide
range of civil rights, civil liberties, and human rights issues.
Currently, he
works on issues involving nationwide election reform, federal judicial
appointments, public education reform, and hate crimes.
Prior to his role with the Leadership
Conference, Mr. Henderson, was the
Washington Bureau Director of the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He was also
previously the
Associate Director of the Washington
national office of the American Civil Liberties Union, where he began
his
career as a legislative counsel.

Mr. Henderson serves as the Joseph L. Rauh,
Jr. Professor of Public Interest Law at the David A. Clark School of
Law,
University of the District of Columbia.
He is a recent recipient of the prestigious 2003 Congressional Black
Caucus
Chair’s Award.
Mr. Henderson is a graduate of Howard
University and the
Rutgers
University School of Law. He is a member of the Bar in the District
of Columbia, New Jersey,
and the United States Supreme Court.
