The Junior Class Prom Committee has captured
the spirit of
the Las Vegas Strip and is bringing it to the Hyatt Regency in Crystal
City to celebrate the
2005 Junior
and Senior Prom on Saturday,
May 21, 2005.

The
stereotypical limo for prom seems to have lost its edge
as a prom mode of transportation this year. When a limo can cost its
riders up
to $192 an hour to $700 dollars for the evening, many students have
opted to
drive themselves to dinner and then to prom this year. There are even a
few
groups who are considering participating in a taxi caravan.
Just as the stereotypical limo has
lost its popularity, it
seems as if the fancy before-prom dinner has lost some of its
popularity. Nevertheless,
there are many students dining at restaurants such as The Daily Grill
in Georgetown,
The Lebanese Taverna in Arlington,
Ireland’s
Four Provinces
in Falls Church, The Olive
Garden in Tyson’s, and Anthony’s in Falls Church. There
are many students that are opting out of the traditional dinner and
decided
that they would rather have a barbeque, cook their own fancy meal, or
have a
pot luck dinner.

After dinner, 220 students and 20 chaperones
are expected to
fill the Hyatt Regency ballroom this Saturday to be swept away into the
sprit
of Vegas. To capture the glamour and fun atmosphere of Vegas, students
will
have the opportunity to gamble and indulge in the dessert buffet.
Students can
gamble at black jack, roulette, and poker tables all run by teacher
volunteers
between 10 p.m
and 12 a.m.
The dessert bar buffet includes carrot cake,
heath bar crunch pie, chocolate dipped strawberries, marbled
cheesecake, “make
you own sundae,” and a never-ending pot of coffee. Music will be
provided by a New York
city D.J., who will be taking requests.
“Our senior prom should be an event to be
remembered,” said Anni Bank, one of the
senior girls representing the senior
class in the prom court. Tania Andrade, Madiah Khan, Alex
Burnett-Greenstein,
Claire Smalley, Brittany Smith and Rachel Sweeny will be joining Anni
on the
prom court. Representing the senior guys are Paul Arnaudo, Alex
Douglas, Josiah
Larson, Andrew Roller, John Sullivan, Steven Williams, and Chad O’Hara
(although he not eligible because he was homecoming king last fall).
Representing the junior class will be Maggie
O’Toole and
Sean McCrany. The prom court will be introduced at 11:30 p.m. which will lead up to the
crowning of the prom
king and queen. The prom is sponsored by Ms. Mary Jo Webster.
Students are reminded that they may not
enter prom after 11 p.m. so
make sure to arrive on time.
