Lasso Online Mock Election

Faculty and Staff Vote 60% for Kerry

By Margaret Lipman, Nana Saynieva, and Emir Parrota (October 28, 2004)

Mirroring the strong support for John Kerry from the GMHS student body, 60 percent of the faculty and staff voted for the Democratic candidate in a mock election conducted by Lasso Online today. However, George Bush garnered 36 percent of the staff vote, while he was favored by only 23.6 percent of the students.

Fifty-three staff members, just under half of the 111 eligible voters, participated in the poll, in comparison to the over 74 percent of students. Still, the percentage of Kerry supporters was almost identical -- 61.3 percent of the students and 60 percent of the staff. In sharp contrast to the students' 14.6 percent support for Ralph Nader, the third-party candidate received only 4 percent of the staff votes.

The results of this poll would seem to reflect the political inclinations of Virginia' 8th Congressional District, but are in opposition to that of the remainder of the State, which political observers predict will cast a majority vote for Bush in the real presidential election on November 2.

John Kerry was favored  by more
than 2 to 1 over George Bush in the
mock election conducted today.
