Ah, Homecoming Week. It’s the only time of the year that the school will actually encourage us to become as animated as Roger Rabbit, as hairy as a caveman, as lady-like as Denis Rodman…well, you get the point. Homecoming Week brings out the crazy in all of us, and it’s amusing for all, even if you don’t dress up and earn points for your class.  This year’s theme is GMTV, with Monday designated as History Channel Day, Tuesday as Cartoon Network day, Wednesday as Weather Channel day, and Thursday as ESPN day. This week will be filled with spirited events, such as the annual Powder Puff football game, the pep rally, the Homecoming football game Friday night under the lights, and of course, the Homecoming Dance.

The theme of the dance this year is "Masked & Anonymous," and requires everyone to come in elegant masks, such as Marti Gras masks. Although Halloween is just around the corner, students are encouraged not to wear scary monster masks. Students have been notified that they are supposed to wear masks that consist of colorful feathers and sequins and the like. Although it will be a masquerade ball, students are not supposed to dress up in costumes, but normal semi-formal dance apparel. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. and last until 12 a.m. Many students will be going out to dinner as is tradition before the dance, then dance the night away in the cafeteria, decorated by the senior class who is also sponsoring the dance. Tickets will be $10, purchased at the door. The dance of course will finish off Homecoming week. The week starts off on Monday as the freshman class day, Designated as History Channel Day. Students will earn points for their class if they wear clothing ranging from the beginning of time to 1989. At least two articles of clothing are needed in order for students to earn points. Tuesday is Cartoon Network Day, meaning students may dress up as cartoon characters, or wear t-shirts with characters on them, or the like. Wednesday is Weather Channel Day, meaning students should watch out for a low pressure system moving down the hall as they make their way to classes. Thursday, being the senior theme day, will be ESPN Day.

Student body president Alex Nette and fellow senior Nathan Ballou measure out the increments for the class competition  scale, which will record the number of  points each class has throughout the week,  including the faculty.

Students should wear college or professional sports jerseys, baseball caps, etc. Students won’t be allowed to carry around basketballs or footballs, etc. Finally, Friday will be red and white day, and students will have to wear our school colors to earn points.

The festivities of course don’t end at 2:45. Hall decorating for each class will begin at 3 and go to 5 on Monday. This is a competitive event in which the grades will fight to earn the most points by having the best decorations pertaining to their class day up in their designated hall. Students will also earn points by attending and participating in the event. Halls will be judged by level of creativity, and whether or not the rules have been abided by. There will be games galore Tuesday night, with the freshman versus sophomore kickball game at 3. The junior versus senior Powder Puff game will also take place on Tuesday, as well as the girls’ away volleyball game, with the spirit bus leaving at 4:30. The annual pep rally will take place Thursday night from 7-9. Finally on Friday, the SCA tailgate party will start at 5 and continue until the start of the Homecoming football game at 7:30. The Mustangs will take on Rappahannock High School for their first Homecoming game under the new lights. Saturday will find seniors decorating in the cafeteria in preparation of the dance starting at 8. Students, and the rest of the community, will be able to relax at the International Family Picnic at Cherry Hill Park on Sunday, from 3-6.

Homecoming Week is sure to be one to remember, this year filled with exciting events that the entire school can take part in. The classes will need to come together to try to win the Battle of the Classes, and dethrone the senior class, as the senior classes have won the Battle for years. Of course, the senior class will need to fight hard to keep its title, since the other three classes are spirited forces to be reckoned with as well.
