Society Inducts 20 New Members
Twenty new National Honor Society members,
including senior Farrel Oxley, shown here, were inducted into the club
last night at a special ceremony. Now the National Honor Society is
made up of 40 members ranging from sophomores to seniors. The NHS
leadership team spoke on the different criterion necessary for
induction, such as honor, scholarship, leadership, and service. NHS
Vice President Senior Casey Smirniotopolous spoke on service, and about
her experience at the Arlington Head Start center this past summer. NHS
President Dan MacDonald spoke on leadership and gave his story about
the various quotes about leadership he collected while being in charge
of the marquee on Leesburg Pike. NHS Secretary Madiha Khan also spoke
on the importance of honor. The inductees were called by name and then
given candles to be lit from the different candles representing the
four aspects of NHS. The Jazz ensemble also played two festive and
upbeat songs to entertain the relatives and friends who attended the
event to see their loved ones being inducted into the prestigious
society. Senior Daisy Torla also sang a solo to the jazz ensemble’s
rendition of Mr. Zoot Suit. (Photo by Rabita Aziz) 11/24/04 |
