International Club
Exotic Foods Flavor Back-to School Night

By Rabita Aziz (September 29, 2003)

Students, teachers and parents attending the annual back-to-school night, enjoyed international cuisine for the unbelievably low price of $3.00 per bowl, last Wed. The food was prepared and served up by members of the International Club who made $286.54 that will be used for supplies for their upcoming International Picnic at Cherry Hill Park on October 19. Funds will also go toward aiding refugees.

The buffet included foods from many countries, such as India, Switzerland, and Thailand. The menu featured pad thai, lo mein, spaghetti and meatballs, and pasta al forno. There was also biryani, an Indian rice dish with spices and meat, and groto, a potato dish. From Germany, there was borsht, and butu, a fried eggplant dish. From the Middle East, there was hummus with pita bread, and rosti, a Swiss potato dish.

International Club sponsor, Mrs. Linda Gantz, said, "Lots of parents came who didn’t have the chance to eat before coming to back-to-school night. They were pleased with the variety of food."

Club president Bill Bacon said, "So many parents said they were glad the food was here." The exotic mix of food gave teachers an alternative to their traditional back-to-school night pizza.
