Chinese Educators Tour Mason to Learn
About IB and Other Programs

(January 27, 2004)

In order to promote internationalism, George Mason recently played host to a contingent of administrators and other representatives of Chinese schools. Two vice principals and a vice supervisor and their entourage toured Mason with two student translators, Kevin Zhou and Weina Xuan.

The Chinese guests were interested in how Mason was organized and how the school motivates students. The Chinese representatives asked many questions about how George Mason ran its International Baccalaureate Program and how they could implement it in their country. China is not currently a country that participates in the baccalaureate to a significant degree.

According to Mason’s IB Coordinator Mr. Brian Dickson, the visitors from China were very appreciative of the chance to visit Mason and to learn about American schools and the IB Program.

Following their tour of the school, the visitors from China enjoyed a lunch in the TLC and met with Mason students, teachers and administrators. The student translators, Zhou and Xuan played a vital role in interpreting the visitors’ questions.
