Girls’ Lacrosse
Teams Rained In at Westfield

By Sara Kaplow (May 17, 2002)

The first ever appearance in district championships by the new Mason lacrosse teams resulted in a rain out on Thursday afternoon at Westfield. The ladies were the only ones to take the field in the first round of the Concorde AAA district competition.

The game lasted for only 11 minutes before the lightning and thunder began and both teams were moved into the school building. After waiting for over an hour for the all clear signal, the Mustangs were moved into the gym due to funnel cloud sightings.

This is the first year that Mason has had varsity and JV lacrosse teams. Due to a lack of competition in single A schools, both boys and girls lacrosse requested placement in a AAA district. The coaches of both teams fought to find a place for the team and found it in the challenging Concorde district.

Neither games have been rescheduled as of yet, however the 7-0 deficit that the ladies had encountered will be erased if the game is played. This is the second scheduling problem the district games have encountered, as they were rescheduled from Tuesday in order to allow teams to finish their regular seasons.
