The George Mason girls' varsity tennis team achieved its second win of the season against Stonewall Jackson H.S. on the Generals' home court last Wednesday.

Not only did the Mustangs win, they shut out the Generals 9-0, taking all 6 lines of singles, and 3 lines of doubles, for a final score of 9-0.

Earning singles victories for Mason were #1 Christina Sedney, #2 Alex LaCoste, #3 Emily Phelps, #4 Paige Dorsey, #5 Meredith Crosby, and #6 Mercedes Bezaury, with enough wins to lock in the match. Three additional victories were gained in doubles, with #1 Christina Sedney & Alex LaCoste, #2 Emily Phelps & Paige Dorsey, and #3 Meredith Crosby & Whitney Lemke.

With Wednesday’s win behind them the team is busy practicing for its first and only district match on Monday against Clarke County. If Mason beats Clarke County, the team will advance to the regional competition later in May.

Mason's season record stands at 2-1, defeating Broad Run H.S, 6-3, and losing to Holton Arms 0-7. The team is looking to continue improving, and they look ahead to the state championship tournament in early June. The Mustangs take on both Clarke County and Central next week, both games are away. The team’s first home game of the season is on Monday May 5, when they take on Holton Arms.
