Mustangs Down Mountaineers 5-1

Becky Roa (April 10, 2003)

The Lady Mustangs improved their regular season record to 2-1 as they defeated the Madison County Mountaineers 5-1 at home Friday night. Freshman midfielder Julie Dorsey jump started the Mustangs’ offense when she finished a great crossed ball from senior co-captain Christina Sedney in the opening 10 minutes.

Soon after, junior striker Alison Penland scored with a 10-yard angled shot. Finishing the scoring for the first-half, junior Becky Roa scored from outside the 18-yard line. The Mustangs entered the second half with a 3-0 lead and confidence, but within the opening 5-minutes, the Mountaineers scored off a missed assignment by a Mustang defender.

The Mustangs quickly put the ball in play and dominated the Mountaineers’ defense for the rest of the half. As a result, two more goals by freshmen midfielder Maggie Mullins and forward Jesse Porzel ended the game at 5-1. The Lady Mustangs’ next game is at 4:00 p.m today against the Manassas Park Cougars.
