Having lost four key players from last year’s girls’ varsity soccer State A Championship team, the remaining players and this year’s core felt unsure about their first match of the season against the AAA state champs, Robinson High School.

The teams met in the State Champion Jubilee that matched last year’s winners in all divisions.

Despite the Rams’ overwhelming possession in Mustang territory almost the entire 45-minutes, the ‘Stangs’ defense remained solid with the help of key goalkeeper and player of the game, Megan Wilhelm.

Although keeping the Rams scoreless, the ‘Stangs themselves were unable to capitalize and the game ended with a (0-0) tie.

With the intent to learn to gel as a team, the second and third matches enabled head coach Cliff to shift newcomers from position to position to determine prospective positions for the present season. With that in mind, Coach Cliff added, "This weekend is not about results, it is simply about having fun and seeing what we still need to work on."

The State Championship Jubilee tournament was hosted by AA state champs, Waynesboro High School in Waynesboro, Virginia.
