The girls’ volleyball team is now 0-2 following its defeat by the Broad Run Spartans Monday night at home. The match ended after the Spartans won the first two games 15-3 and 15-10.

Mason’s starting lineup consisted of seniors Aysha Twose, Laura Straub, and Christine Hillegass, as well as juniors Andrea Arias, Rwaida Al-Shagra, and Sarah Snyder. The six, playing the whole game, were unable to hold the Spartans.

The first match ended 15-3, which was a wake up call to the Mustangs to get their act together. The wake up call came, but it wasn’t quite strong enough. The Spartans were able to beat the Mustangs by a far narrower margin in the second match, 15-10 with two fouls, which won them the entire game.

After the game, junior Rwaida Al-Shagra talked about her team's strengths, weaknesses, and plans. "We didn’t do so well tonight. There was a lack of communication throughout the game, people weren’t calling their balls, and our morale isn’t so high. We really need to build up our confidence because we are a really good team and we can beat these teams," Al-Shagra said. as she held an icepack to her wrist, which she hurt diving for the ball during the second match.

Senior Aysha Twose added, "Tonight’s game was a big improvement from Friday’s. However, we are lacking confidence during these games, which really hurts us." Asked for her forecast of outcomes in future games Twose confidently said, "They will be very strong. We don’t give up."
