Varsity Football at Home Versus Madison County
Mustangs Wait Out Bye Week;
Gear Up for District Competition

Chris Campanelli (October 10, 2002)

The Mustang Football team was able to relax this past bye weekend, but has been in preparation for the intense Bull Run District competition that begins Saturday at home against Madison County.

Having compiled a 2-3 record against non-district competition, the Mustangs face even tougher challenges against the district teams. According to Mason varsity head coach Tom Horn, the Bull Run district is "one of the strongest" he has seen in his seven years at Mason.

With league titans Strasburg and Manassas Park ranked among the top 10 Division 1 schools, the district is more competitive than ever.

Mason quarterback Matt Williams especially noted Manassas Park’s "incredible speed" which aided them in their recent defeat of the defending state champion Rams. However, the Strasburg Rams recently defeated Manassas Park. According to Williams, Strasburg is a "well disciplined team that knows how to win games."

With the enormous population expansion of Brentsville, this will be the last year that Mason’s arch rival will be competing in Single A football. Brentsville poses more of a threat than usual this year, standing at 4-1. Other threats in the district include Clark County (3-2) and Madison County (2-3).

Although the Mustangs have been forced to inside practices due to the safety concerns generated by the recent random shootings in the metropolitan area, Mason has continued in preparation for facing Madison County at home this weekend. Game time is 2 p.m.
