For casual Northern
Italian fare in a family restaurant atmosphere, set your sights on Maggiano’s
located in the Tyson’s II Galleria shopping center in McLean, Virginia.
To start off, tease your taste buds with appetizers such as the fried mozzarella
with marinara coated on top, spinach and artichoke dip served warm and
cheesy, or freshly sautéed calamari with a light marinara sauce.
That's if you haven’t overdone yourself on the bread and olive oil they
serve hot out of the oven when you are seated. All appetizers start just
under $10.00 each. At the same time, the salad of your choice is also served
in a big family style portion just under $10.00.
For your next course, some pastas
to think about include white clam sauce on a bed of linguini, rigatoni
D coated in a light Alfredo sauce with portions of breaded chicken mixed
in, or settle with the sure-to-please-a-family dishes such as the fettuccine
Alfredo or classic spaghetti and meatballs. pastas ranging from $9.95 to
$13.95.
For the main entree, indulge yourself
even more if you can imagine, in chicken Milanese that is lightly breaded
and served with a medley of cuts that include onions, and green and red
peppers. If you are a fish eater, don’t fret, Maggiano’s offers a wide
selection ranging from char-grilled salmon with lemon, to a fresh medley
of lobster, shrimp and scallops sautéed in herbed butter all served
in the traditional pastas. All entrees are priced from $14.95 to $31.95. |

To finish your meal,
anything on the dessert menu is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. You’d
be missing out if you didn’t end your meal with a thick cut of cheesecake
that melts in your mouth sprinkled with light raspberry sauce or indulge
yourself with tiramisu, an Italian sponge cake with coffee-flavored ingredients
mixed with cream cheese and oozed with caramel and chocolate sauce. All
desserts are priced at $5.50 per slice.
The atmosphere is elegant enough
to know you're in a fine Italian establishment, but there’s a causal, relaxed
feel as well, that provides the perfect milieu for a romantic dinner, a
large gathering or a private party. |

In fact, Maggiano’s suggests
choosing the "Family Style" dinner for $23.99 a person, for groups of 10
or more. This includes two choices of appetizers, salads, pastas, entrees,
and desserts. When choosing to go "Family Style," know that there is more
from where that came from. . .on everything! Meaning, if you didn’t get
a fair share of the spaghetti and meatballs and crave more, mention it
to your waiter or waitress and they will bring out another family style
bowl with no hidden extra costs. All around, I would give this restaurant
five out of five stars, the appearance is nice (a little dark, but nice),
the service is great with one head waiter or waitress and about four others
always filling drinks, and serving food.
