2003 Prom
‘Fair Verona’ Entertains 210 as
Redick, Drayer Reign as King, Queen
By Kristin Sommers (May 23, 2003)

Seniors Ricky Redick and Lyda Drayer ruled over the GMHS 2003 prom after being crowned by assistant principals Monika Bilby and Tim Guy at the State Theater last Saturday night.

When asked what it felt like to be crowned queen, Drayer answered, "I was surprised but it was so cool. I’m really glad all my friends wanted me to win and voted for me." When Redick was asked he had only one thing to say: "I am king."

The prom theme of "Fair Verona" was carried out successfully by the junior class. The State Theater was decorated with rose petals, ivy and soft candlelight at every table. Juniors and seniors danced the night away to music by a DJ with a jumbo screen playing popular music videos.

But with all this happiness there was a little sadness said senior Kate O’Hara. "It was a great experience but a little sad because it was one of the last experiences of high school, but still tons of fun," said O’Hara. Senior Caitlin Wright said, "I had an amazing time, I thought the prom was better than last year."

The one complaint, carrying on with tradition, was the music. Senior Jon Costa said, "It’s too bad the music kept me more off the floor than on." Senior Sara Kaplow agreed, " The prom was beautiful but I would have liked more variety in the music."

Approximately 210 juniors and seniors attended, helping the juniors raise money to put towards toward the prom next year.
