Band Joins Guest Artist John Blount
In Year's Final Concert

John Blount, the lead trumpet player of the Navy’s premiere jazz ensemble, "The Commodores," was featured in the GMHS Symphonic Band’s "Spring Concert" on Thursday, May 15th

Blount was featured in 3 songs, "El Tempesto," "Soliloquy," and "Bugler’s Holiday," which featured GMHS trumpeters Sean O’Connor and Rahul Gupta. 

The Brass Ensemble, (made up of Sean O’Connor, Rahul Gupta, Alex Nette, Farrell Oxley, Maggie Person, Bob Bumgarner, Andy Walsh, Nathan Ballou) opened the concert with the "Star Spangled Banner."

IB Music students Cynthia Rose, Megan Wilhelm, and Michael Miller showcased their original compositions that were performed by David Oglethorpe, Lisa Collins, Tina Parson, Michael Miller, Maggie Pearson, Andrea Genovese, and Mr. Allen, the band paraprofessional. 

The concert also included "Thunder and Lightning," a piece featuring the GMHS Percussion Ensemble, composed of Edmund Jong, Kellan Meador-Pabon, David Oglethorpe, Charlie Himel, Pete Hamill, and Doug Thompson. 

The finale was innovative. The GMHS Symphonic Band performed "Riverdance Finale," (which included solos by Jason Martinez, Alex Douglas, Rachel Sweeney, Stephen Donnelly, and Phil Blush,) while Betsy Elliott performed an Irish Dance. 

Blount also was featured at a concert Tuesday night as he directed the Potomac Jazz Ensemble at George Mason
