Gets Bid to
NASA Competition

May 10th, 2003 was a dreary
day for most of Virginia, but not even the rain could stop the GMHS science
club from competing in the Team America contest, in which they took home
6th place, out of 873 teams.

Team America is a nation-wide
contest that presents the challenge of designing and building a two stage
rocket that can lift two raw eggs. The rocket must be able to reach an
altitude of 1500 feet, and must return the eggs safely to the ground. This
challenge is open to all high school students, and GMHS’s science club
decided to form a team to take on this challenge.
The team’s name is "Pegasus", which
is modeled after a mythical flying horse.
Team members include Ellis Langford,
Lisa Collins, Keith Rothman, Kevin Zhou and Ed Jung.
Pegasus competed last Saturday, rain
and all, finishing 6th place out of 101 teams from across the
nation that had also qualified for the competition at Great Meadows. Because
of the team's outstanding performance Saturday they are now eligible for
participation in the 2003-2004 NASA Student Launch Initiative Program. |
Rain
couldn't dampen the spirits of Mason's Team America
as it came in sixth
place out of 873 teams on May 10. The
team now is eligible
for participation in the 2003-2004
NASA Student Launch
Initiative Program. From left, are
