General Assembly
Staff Members
Conduct Research
at George Mason
By Eileen Backofen (May 1, 2003)
On Wednesday April 24th
representatives from the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission
(JLARC) of the Virginia General Assembly visited George Mason to gather
information about the status of educational technology.
|
Falls Church City
was one of only 11 school divisions in the state to be included in the
committee's research study. During their tour JLARC staff members observed
classes in the TLC and VPA labs and spoke with several teachers about technology
in the curriculum and their future needs.
They also met with Falls Church Finance
Director Hunter Kimble and members of the Technology Steering Committee,
Mary Ellen Shaw, Rik Jowers, Eileen Backofen, John Harrison and Donna Shooltz
to discuss suggestions and concerns regarding the funding of educational
technology. State funding currently accounts for approximately 13% of the
FCCPS technology budget. JLARC's final report will present funding formula
options for consideration by the General Assembly. |
