WorldQuest Team
Competes at OAS
By Brian Dickson (April 2, 2003)
The World Affairs Councils
of America--headquartered in Washington, DC--has branches all across the
country. Each branch held a competition among high schools in order to
determine which schools would be invited to compete in the national "Academic
WorldQuest 2003" final held in the central ballroom of the beautiful Organization
of American States (OAS) building close to the White House in Washington
DC. Fifteen teams of four students from as far afield as Honolulu, Washington
State and California participated.
The Washington DC chapter of the
World Affairs Council invited George Mason to enter directly into the final
because of our school’s enthusiastic participation in their international
affairs meetings and our reputation on ‘Its Academic’ and the ‘Scholastic
Bowl’. |

Last Saturday from 2
p.m. until 4:30 p.m Mason's team of Dan Bray, Evan Cunningham, Daniel Sheffler,
and Bjorn Westergard, fielded ten questions per round for four sessions.
Although the Mason team did not earn
a place in the top three participating schools, it earned George Mason
an invitation to return next year with a team and was the only school with
full points on the final "General Knowledge" round.
Other rounds consisted of questions
on World Geography, Flags of the world, Current World events, People in
the News and Faces around the world. |
