Coin War Begins
to Heat Up

Can this year’s seniors repeat the
phenomenal total of $400 collected by the Class of 2002 during the fourth
Coin War sponsored by the Student Council? The Coin War began January 13th
and continues until February 14th. At 2:30 today, February 5,
an unscientific measurement by Lasso Online reporters shows that the freshmen
have accumulated 5 cm of coins. The seniors follow distantly with 3 cm
and the juniors and sophomores follow with 1 cm.
During the
Coin War, empty five-gallon water jugs are set out in front of the library
to collect donations from students. Each class receives a point for each
penny donated and 100 points for each golden dollar. Classes can hinder
the chances of other classes by adding silver coins, which would cause
points to be subtracted.
The class with the most points will
donate the money to the charity of their choice. The seniors have chosen
to help the American Cancer Society and the juniors opted for the Northern
Virginia Family Service. Sophomores chose Amnesty International, and the
freshmen chose the Make-A-Wish Foundation. |

alleviate the painfully-trailing
sophomores
in the Coin War.
