Despite the snow, teams came from
as far away as Richmond this past Saturday to compete in the annual Ad
Fontes Latin Certamen at George Mason Univerity. The competition was one
of the largest Certamen in the area, with 80 teams allowed to compete.
Students in Ms. Cathy Caridi’s Latin I and II classes did exceptionally
well, especially the students in her Latin II class, who won first place.

The team, consisting of senior Ellis
Langford and sophomores Olga Belinskaya, Madiha Khan, and Mohamed Zohir,
placed second in the preliminary round of the competition, which made them
eligible to compete in the final round where they beat at least 15 other
teams and earned their gold medals.
Latin I students also did well in
the competition, especially considering that the team only had two members
and the standard team has four. The team’s members, junior Tiffany Moore
and freshman Alan Chong, received a seventh place honorable mention out
of 15 teams. |
