JV Show Rescheduled for Friday Night

By Tammy Ashworth (December 11, 2002)

The "Kaleidoscope"-themed Junior Variety show opens this Friday, December 13, at 7:30 PM in the GM auditorium. The talent show, one of the school’s longest running and most beloved traditions, is the junior class’s key means of fundraising for prom.

Originally scheduled to open Thursday, December 5, the variety show was postponed following last week’s heavy snowfall, which cancelled school for two days. This change also means that the JV show will only be shown one night, as opposed to its usual two-night run.

Despite these setbacks, the performers remain largely undaunted. "We’ve put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this, and it will show," said senior Alisa Sukachevin, who plans an a cappella performance of Desiree’s "You Gotta Be," with fellow seniors Stefanie Johnston and Ashlie Peters.

Several members of the GM faculty are reprising the success of last year’s wildly popular surprise performance of "Mustang Sally," with a lively rendition of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." The show will also feature a number of student vocal acts, instrumental performances, and even a standup comedy routine, among others.

The wide array of acts is a direct reflection of the show’s "Kaleidoscope" theme. As junior Christina Heupel put it, "The whole spectrum of student talent is shown throughout the different performances." Heupel is singing "Everything I Do, I Do It For You," by Bryan Adams in the show this Friday evening.

Physics teacher and performer David Applegate calls the variety show "a good opportunity for kids to express themselves and show their talents in ways they normally can’t at school."

This one night only, a veritable "Kaleidoscope" of a show starts Friday night at 7:30 in the auditorium. Admission is $4 for students and $6 for adults.
