Friends Preserve the Memories
Of Dana and Jessica

(October 18, 2002)

To put a proper closing to one of the most painful weeks in George Mason’s history, scores of students and teachers gathered in the gym today to finish signing the message boards for Jessica Szymanski and Dana Wood, two graduates of the Class of 2002 who died tragically this past Tuesday in a car crash as they were returning to their college in North Carolina.

Emotions ran high as dozens of members of the Class of 2002, most of whom came from long distances, were reunited in a manner they wished had never happened.

Amid the silence punctuated only by sobs, the students carefully cut out the literally hundreds of poems and messages written over the past few days and gently, almost reverentially, placed them in memory scrapbooks for later presentation to the girls’ families.
