Saturday Night
‘A Mid-Winter Night’s Dream’ to Enchant Dancers at Winter Formal

(January 8, 2003)

The cold weather and snow enveloping Mason’s campus form a perfect backdrop for the upcoming Winter Formal, "A Mid-Winter Night’s Dream," to be held this Saturday night from 8 to midnight in the GM café.

Now in its fifth year, the Winter Formal, co-sponsored by the freshman and sophomore classes, is an elegant affair intended to bring a little social warmth to the dreary cold of January. "One of the reasons for the Winter Formal was to provide an opportunity for the younger students to learn to plan and prepare major social events so they’ll be even more ready when they are juniors to plan the prom and seniors to plan homecoming," said assistant principal Tim Guy. He added that the relatively new formal dance "has quickly become a fine tradition in is own right."
Students from the freshman class planning committee for the
Winter Formal put up posters advertising this Saturday's
"Mid-Winter Night's Dream" dance in the GM Cafe.

Freshman sponsor Lorin Nevetsky wants all Masonites to be aware that while the dance is planned by the ninth and tenth graders, it is open to all students 9 –12. "Also, we want everyone to know that by ‘formal,’ we don’t mean tuxes or even, necessarily coats and ties. Nice casual attire like skirts and blouses and no jeans is fine for this dance," said Nevetsky.

Junior Teddy Smith will act as deejay for the dance and refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $4 in advance and $6 at the door. Proceeds go to the freshman and sophomore class funds.
