IB coordinator
Brian Dickson teaches seniors Sara Kaplow and Kristin Sommers about the
school’s new Geochron that is now hanging in the window in the main office.
The Geochron can tell the students the current time in any time zone in
the world (our own time zone is number 5) and how much sunlight or darkness
is in any particular area at that particular time of day or night. This
colorful device also indicates the day of the week on either side of the
International Date Line and the length of daylight at the current season
of the year. The curved lit areas on the Geochron continuously show both
the moment of sunrise and sunset around the world. The Geochron was a gift
from an anonymous benefactor and picked out by principal Bob Snee and Mr.
Dickson. It was chosen after the two saw it at the United World College
in Victoria, British Columbia. Dickson says that the Geochron "gives an
international aspect to our everyday lives and represents the International
Baccalaureate program by showing aspects from around the world." (Photo
