‘I Do Not
Like Green Eggs and Ham!’
All Ages Celebrate
‘Read Across America’ Day
(March 3, 2003)
Everyone got into the act today as the
nation and the Falls Church schools recognized "Read Across America Day,"
sponsored by the National Education Association and the Falls Church Education
Association.along with the PTA. Mason principal Bob Snee read three books
to kindergarten students at Mt. Daniel Elementary School. Here he’s deep
into "The Red Racer" with a group of enchanted young listeners. Snee also
read "Wemberly Worried," one of his all-time favorites. Mason librarian
Maria O’Connell got into character as she donned her "Cat in the Hat" regalia
to read "Green Eggs and Ham" with George Mason Middle School students.
Middle school students held a read-in in the library and received lollipops
and tatoos that proudly stated, "I read a book today!" The special day,
designed to promote literacy, is held each year at this time to commemorate
Dr. Seuss’s March 2 birthday. (Photos by Loreto Martinez and Becky Roa)
