Garrison Named New Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach

(From press release) October 11, 2001

George Mason High School’s junior varsity basketball coach David Garrison has been elevated to head coach of the varsity boys’ basketball team, following the departure of coach Chris Capannola.

Capannola moved to Ohio following the most successful season in GM history. Last season the Mustangs posted a 21-6 record, falling to Radford High School in the State Semifinals.

Coach Garrison, a Mason alum and physical education teacher at Mt. Daniel, has served as the JV boys’ basketball coach for seven seasons, leading his teams to the district championship game six of those seven years while winning three championships.

"Coach Garrison has done a remarkable job of preparing his teams in the past and although he and coach Capannola have different coaching styles, I am looking forward to continued success on the court and a positive representation of our school on and off the court under the direction of coach Garrison," said Mason athletic director Tom Horn.
