At a home meet on Monday the George
Mason High School Scholastic Bowl Team defeated teams from Strasburg and
Rappahannock, with scores of 200 to 55 and 185 to 95 points respectively,
continuing the team’s season-long winning streak.
Members of the Scholastic Bowl team
include seniors Evan McCulla, Michael Cashman and Alex Baker, junior Dan
Bray and sophomores Evan Cunningham, Rahul Gupta, Kaitlin Bottock and Joseph
Mauro. The team practices weekly and is coached by social studies teacher
Jaime Scharff. |
Each meet consists of three matches.
The first match was between George Mason and Strasburg. Then, Rappahannock
defeated Strasburg in the second round. The last match was between George
Mason and Rappahannock.
Scholastic bowl questions are very
challenging, covering many topics. Correct answers ranged from the great
Roman orator Cicero to the modern artist Andy Warhol. A wide variety of
academic subjects and trivia are included.
What is the most exciting part about
being a member of the Scholastic Bowl team?
"The winning tradition," junior Dan
Bray said proudly.
The District Tournament for Scholastic
Bowl will be January 31.
