Is He Real or
Not?
‘Harvey’ Opens Tomorrow
for Three-Night Run;
Director Marino
Promises An Evening of Laughs
By Alexis Baker (October 17,
2001)
"Harvey," a comedy in three acts,
will be presented by the George Mason drama department this coming Thursday,
Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 on the GM stage.
The
classic comedy, written by Mary Chase in 1943, features the talents of
many veteran and rookie actors. Sophomore Matt Meyer stars as the delusional
Elwood P. Dowd, whose unconventional friendship with an invisible six and
a half-foot pooka rabbit causes a disturbance within the Dowd/Simmons family.
Veta Louise Simmons (played by Dena
Adriance), the matriarch of the household, attempts to send Elwood to a
mental institution, where, because of a misunderstanding between doctors,
is institutionalized herself.
This
hilariously funny mishap, which also includes seniors Christine Piscopo,
Sasha Eric, Alexis Baker, James Dzierwa, Mellissa Rose-McCully; juniors
Kate O’Hara and Stephanie Johnston; and sophomores Annie Wanlund and Anya
Solovieva; and freshmen Chad O’Hara and Sam Adylette, will leave the audience
spellbound according to those who have peeked at the rehearsals.
What happens to Elwood? The answer
lies in this Frank Marino production. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for
students. Stage director John Ballou and his crew have designed the set.
