Bracken Leaves
GM for Fairfax Position
By Juliana Pearson (November 28, 2001) After more than 2 years of service to the George Mason High School community, Judy Bracken, the school’s college and career counselor, reported to work for the last time today. Bracken is leaving George Mason to do similar work at Fairfax High School. "The change is a chance for professional growth." Bracken said. Although Bracken feels that in some respects the Fairfax position offers more opportunities, such as the ability to teach career units in the classroom she also had a very hard time deciding to change positions. "My heart is at George Mason. I love the students and the teachers. At Fairfax, because the school is so big, I won’t be able to give each student as much individual attention," said Bracken, citing a disadvantage of the new job. For many upperclassmen, Bracken has
been an instrumental aid during their college searches and career explorations.
She will be sorely missed by many students who came to the Career Center
in search of Bracken’s knowledgeable and warm advice.
