Burg Eltz
This Castle is different from all the others we've visited
Usually you walk up to a castle. This one is in a valley.
Since it's not easily seen, this provided some measure of safety
Built around the 15th century, this castle has remained in the hands of the same family through to the present day
One branch of the family still lives nearby.
The interior has a family atmosphere
including this family tree
Our next stop was the town of Cochem
The history of the town appears in its Coats of Arms
Medieval Architechure
On the banks of the Mozelle, the village castle (Burg Metternich) dominates the landscape
This was a lovely spot to stop and have lunch
