The City of Mozart and The Sound of Music Movie

This was our 3rd visit to Salzburg and our 2nd time to see their Christmas Markets

This is the oldest restaurant in Europe in continuing operation

Musicians perform on a rotating basis. This one was very unusual

This was our first visit to the castle/fortress on the cliff above the city

Last year we tried to walk up to the summit

But it's further than it looks

This year we took the funicular

located close to these tombs in the rock

The fortress, the high point of the city,

Provided a wonderful view of the surrounding area

 

 

This is the ancient wall around the city

Looking down on the river

The Prince-Bishops resided in the city and retreated to the fortress in times of danger

Since it was a clear day, the Alps were also visible

Within the fortress complex there was a chapel
and
a small Christmas Market

A tour of the interior rooms was included.

At right is an ancient organ which was played without a keyboard
