Vienna - 2012 The summer home of the Hapsburgs
Schoenbrunn Palace
I first heard of Schoenbrunn at in 1961 when Kennedy met Krushchev there in the "Grand Hall."
My mother told me that my grandmother was born in "Schoenbrunn."
Since her immigration papers listed "Austria" I began looking for a village by that name.
Only through the Internet over 40 years later did I find her village Šambron (pronounced as the alace) in Slovakia
which until 1918 was part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire.
Although we did see the Grand Hall as part of our tour, no photos were allowed inside the palace.
The 40 rooms of the tour were richly, but not ostentatiously decorated.
Emperor Franz Josef wanted a simpler lifestyle and actually slept in an iron bed. Empress Sisi and the other noblewomen opted for a fancier lifestyle.

At this time of year there are many "Easter Markets" set up throughout Europe.

Food, crafts, music and the traditional decorated eggs.

This market was on the palace grounds.
