Finally
on our way from Dulles
Joe is happy to be traveling first class.
The food and the space are both much better

A beautiful sunset with mountain
peaks poking up through the clouds |
One
peak was Mount Baker
Approaching
Our Destination |
Our
hotel was close to the airport, a taxi ride to downtown,
with
not
much in the residential/industrial neighborhood
This
was a unique first stop on our first Vancouver morning. Kind of a "Donut
Speakeasy"
Ring
the bell and a guy appears to sell you the freshly baked available
options of the day
A perfect start with coffee at our hotel |
We
took a taxi downtown and found a picket line at the port |
Historical
sites downtown |
The clock steams continuously
It was supposed to chime at 12 noon
It did not
We
walked around downtown |
We
found the retail store of the donut bakery
that we visited this morning
Walking
along the seawall |
Many
seaplanes |
Along
the seawall are panels describing true stories of those who "dared
to venture
to what was, for them, the most remote corner of the earth"
"Who, having left behind everything that was familiar, were open
to something new"
"Remember, for all but First Nations, everything was new: the forest,
the animals, the sheer size of the place" |
One
of the stories |
Some
of the watercraft in the marina gave a new interpretation to
the term "houseboat" |

Back at the
Port of Vancouver
the Queen Elizabeth is docked
Our ship, the Celebrity Edge,
is scheduled to arrive tomorrow
