Approaching Raiatea

Onboard a catamaran enroute to a historical site
We began sailing with beautiful weather and singing along with the crew
Suddenly the "weather started getting rough...our tiny ship was tossed"
Passengers huddled together

while the crew continued to sing

The skies cleared as we docked

Rain was still visible

over other parts of the island
We walked to the historical marae - a sacred site for religious and social purposes
Our guide explained the significance of the different structures

Fruits Native to the Island
Our guide explained how the
ancient Polynesians sailed
from this central location, "Havaii"
to islands throughout the Pacific Ocean

This is represented by an Octopus
Rainclouds still over the Mountains
