A "Surprise" Cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean


We have been to Naples twice before - both on land trips to visit nearby Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius

A difference perspective when arriving by cruise ship

In 1944 the harbor was busy with warships and Mt Vesuvius was erupting A very difference scene today

Several cruise ships are docked this morning	We walked around the port

Back Onboard - Time to Leave

	As we left Naples, I could see the Isle of Capri in the distance Dad told me about visiting there during WWII

From my Dad's WWII Diary March 22, 1944 - "Good Afternoon Shipmates", "Some day your grandchildren may be asking you questions about Mt. Vesuvius and what you saw these past three days" This was the prediction of the Chaplain of the WWII Cruiser USS Philadelphia during one of his addresses to the crew as they watched Mount Vesuvius erupt while at anchor in the Bay of Naples One goal of our 3 generation family in 2019 was to hike Vesuvius
