Lake
Llanquihue, the second largest lake in Chile, sits at the base
of the Osorno Volcano
This morning clouds cover the mountain |

Lake
Llanquihue has an area of about 330 square miles and is 22 miles
long and
25 miles wide |

|
Calbuco
volcano, along with its neighbor Osorno, is one of Chile's
most active volcanoes.
While Osorno hasn't erupted in 100 years, Calbuco, 6 miles
south of the lake, erupted in 2015
Below are photos of that event

Our
first stop was Petrohue Falls, a geologic formation created about
22,000 years ago
by volcanic eruptions coming in contact with the glaciers

Along
with the natural beauty of the Carilemu Trail, one can buy native
crafts and souvenirs |
|
|
Our
next stop was the Osorno Volcano accessible by ski lift or a steep
climb on the trail |
|
|
OK, let's walk |
Clouds
still obscure our view |

|
Maybe
we should wait awhile |
