Park
Guell, a work of Antoni Gaudi is one of the most beautiful icons
of the city.
It is located in the upper part
of Barcelona, which has wonderful views of the city. You can
enjoy a fantastic green walk surrounded by a modernist works.
The park is divided into free and restricted (fee) areas
|
Throughout the city you can see the flag of independence for
Catalonia
We had tickets for the restricted area which included a shuttle
bus from the Metro station
Since it was only 1/4 mile, we decided to walk
Note: The walk is UPHILL, very STEEP UPHILL

There was an escalator on one section, BUT
It was NOT working |

Walking through the free area
of the park, the panorama of the city was beautiful

From this vantage point we can look down on
a small part of the Restricted Area |

|
This was the pleasant area where we waited
for our timed entry |

|
|
Gaudi was inspired by nature. So he designed
the columns to resemble tree trunks |

This
huge mosaic is under renovation |
|
The main area of the park was not as crowded as we
expected. The timed entry restriction is probably responsible for
this. |

Yes, there is ongoing contruction
and renovation. This is to be expected to maintain such an iconic
site |

This worker is replacing tiles on the structure
While any tourist would like to have photos free of construction
material,
watching the process was interesting in itself
and
certainly preferable to having the site fall into disrepair
You can always buy a postcard to have a perfect image as a souvenir
